SB Local Returns to SBIFF with Spanish Language Short Film

LOCAL NATIVE T.S. MEEKS RETURNS TO SANTA BARBARA FILM FESTIVAL FOR HIS SOPHOMORE RELEASE TITLED “DISTANCIA”

SPANISH LANGUAGE SHORT FILM TO BE SCREENED

JANUARY 28 & 29 AT THE LOBERO THEATRE

Santa Barbara County Resident T.S. Meeks returns to the Santa Barbara Film Festival with the debut of his second short film, “distancia.” Meeks wrote and directed the Spanish language 10-minute film, which stars Javier B. Suarez, Atman and Judah Arcos. “distancia” will be screened on January 28 and 29th at the Lobero Theatre at 4:30 p.m. PT. For tickets, go to www.sbiff.org.

Produced by Meeks and long-time friend and collaborators Atman and Aaron Inman, “distancia” tells the story of a disabled Latino immigrant who lives in Los Angeles and struggles with loneliness and questions life. He is faced with an unexpected conversation with God and his connection with humanity.

Meeks was inspired to write the film after a conversation with Javier, hearing his journey and seeing his passion for life and his humility.

“Javier went through a lot to get to where he is. One thing he did experience was loneliness and I think that is something that we all have to deal with in our lives, not matter how hard we try to escape it,” shares Meeks. “We can all relate to the feeling of being disconnected or cut off and what prompted me to write this and then create it, was the idea of loneliness as something that makes us uniquely human and we have the opportunity to reach out to those who are alone.”

T.S. Meeks was born and raised in Solvang, Calif. Meeks worked as an actor at the Loft studios in Los Angeles, where he immersed himself in theatre. After viewing life in front of the camera, he became interested in the efforts that took place behind the camera: the production process and screenwriting. It then became his passion, and now his desire is to create films focusing on character told through powerful visuals. His first film “To Us” premiered at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival in 2014, and then was screened in Los Angeles. His mentor and teacher Thomas Ethan Harris, of American Cinematheque, inspired him to understand that film is a visual medium to reflect humanity.
