X-Men: Apocalypse Won't Feature Patrick Stewart or Ian McKellen

We may have seen the last of the original Professor Xavier and Magneto, says Patrick Stewart.

Initial reports indicated that X-Men: Apocalypse would be a mixture of old and new cast. Recent reports indicate that it's going to focus more on the "new" end of that equation, though.

Patrick Stewart told Larry King (via Yahoo! Movies) that “I was learning quite a lot more about it last night, and it is going to be looking very much at the earlier lives of all our characters...And so I don’t think we’ll be making an appearance.”

So the final act of the "First Class Trilogy" is going to keep its spotlight on James McAvoy's Xavier and Michael Fassbender's Magneto. And with new casting for Cyclops and Jean Grey in the wind, the X-Men franchise might finally be ready to step out of the shadow of its original cast once and for all. While Hugh Jackman will show up as Wolverine to anchor this movie, and he's still set to play him one more time after X-Men: Apocalypse for the still untitled Wolverine 3, we imagine he'll be moving on soon, as well.

X-Men: Apocalypse opens on May 27th, 2016.
