Simon Pegg to Co-Write Star Trek 3

Montgomery Scott himself, Simon Pegg, is co-writing the script for the next Star Trek movie. Details here... Star Trek 3 (or is it Star Trek 13? This does get confusing) has been in the midst of some upheaval lately. Roberto Orci exited the director's chair, reportedly because of problems with the script. Justin Lin of Fast & Furious fame took his place, but it still left a few things unresolved. Well, some of that has now been resolved. Simon Pegg (who needs no further introduction, but who plays Mr. Scott in the films, as if you didn't know) and Doug Jung (TNT's Dark Blue) will co-write the script for the new Star Trek movie. The still untitled Trek film is scheduled for a July 8th, 2016 release, but it's hard to imagine that happening now. Paramount definitely want to see a Star Trek movie in theaters for the franchise's 50th anniversary, but when you're just announcing a writing team in January of 2015, well...this could be tricky. No word on whether this is a completely fresh start for the project, or what elements from the draft from Roberto Orci's time in the director's chair will remain.
