Daniel Bruhl's Captain America: Civil War Role Revealed

Daniel Bruhl will play a notable Captain America villain in Captain America: Civil War. We have an official synopsis, too.

This article contains potential spoilers for Captain America: Civil War.

Daniel Bruhl was cast in Captain America: Civil War before we even knew all that much about the project. Not that we know all that much about it now, but we seriously knew zilch when he was first announced. I admit to only knowing slightly more than zilch at this stage.

Anyway, the smart money was always on Mr. Bruhl playing a very particular Captain America villain, one who has been noticeably absent until now. But now a casting call appears to have spilled the beans in all but official capacity that Mr. Bruhle is playing Baron Zemo. This opens up a host of crazy questions, though. I'll just dump them all in one place, and you can have fun with them:

Now, is he playing Heinrich Zemo or Helmut Zemo? Will we possibly meet the elder Zemo in a WWII flashback, or is this Zemo also a "man out of time" like Steve Rogers? Does this mean we could get a Thunderbolts movie someday? Is Zemo possibly going to take the place of the Red Skull, who I would normally assume would have a critical role at this stage of the game given the Ed Brubaker/Steve Epting comics that this movie will probably draw on for inspiration in addition to the Civil War story?

The casting call also reveals what appears to be an official synopsis for the film, and also confirms (again) that Chadwick Boseman will make an appearance as T'Challa/The Black Panther.

"In Captain America: Civil War, billionaire Tony Stark is pitted against Captain America aka Steve Rogers in an ethical face-off over the US government's Superhuman Registration Act, which requires all superpowered individuals register their powers and report to SHIELD."

It's all too much. It's very exciting, though. We also know that Frank Grillo will be back, and this time he'll be properly playing Crossbones, so that's exciting. It opens on May 6th, 2016
