David Tennant Joins Marvel's AKA Jessica Jones

David Tennant as a Marvel villain? Yes, we're okay with that. More details from the AKA Jessica Jones Netflix series here...

Former Doctor Who star David Tennant has joined the cast of Marvel's AKA Jessica Jones Netflix series, as the villainous Kilgrave. In the comics, Killgrave is known as "the Purple Man" (for obvious reasons) and boasts the more on-the-nose surname of "Killgrave." He's described as "An enigmatic figure from Jessica’s past, Kilgrave’s reappearance will send shockwaves through the former super hero’s world."

Maybe this means we can forgive him for Gracepoint.

Without getting too spoiler-y, if you've read the (excellent) Alias comics that AKA Jessica Jones is based on, Kilgrave is a major factor in why Jessica Jones does what she does these days, and this should make for some harrowing television. He utilizes a particularly gross form of mind control to his advantage. You'll see.

“I'm so honored and excited by the prospect of David inhabiting this multifaceted character,” said AKA Jessica Jones showrunner Melissa Rosenberg in a statement. “He can deliver the most heart-wrenching moment to the driest of lines, and all points in between. He'll make Kilgrave a truly original villain."

Here's the official synopsis for AKA Jessica Jones:

After a tragic ending to her short-lived super hero stint, Jessica Jones is rebuilding her personal life and career as a detective who gets pulled into cases involving people with extraordinary abilities in New York City.

AKA Jessica Jones should debut late in 2015 or early 2016. It stars Krysten Ritter as Jessica Jones and Mike Colter as Luke Cage. Ritter and Colter will probably make an appearance on Marvel's Daredevil series as well, and Colter's Luke Cage will get his own series after AKA Jessica Jones concludes.
