Mortal Kombat X: Reptile Slithers Into the Battle

In this brand new gameplay trailer, we see Reptile try to evicerate Kung Lao. Has the lizard ninja bitten off more than he can chew?

The latest fighter reveal for the upcoming Mortal Kombat X is Reptile, the cold-blooded ninja henchman. In a new trailer released today from IGN, we get to see the slobbering, masked creature throw down with the aged Kung Lao. Kung Lao, as it turns out, has some razor wit to go with his razor hat.

A lot of Reptile’s classic attacks return. The secreted force ball, the slide attack, the invisibility, etc. He shows a new variation of the acid spit, now less of a projectile and more like projectile vomit. He also has a couple throws, including one that shows that the guy has some serious muscle going on in that tongue of his. There’s no indication about what kind of styles he has, but we do get to see his X-ray attack and part of his Fatality.

Reptile's inclusion shouldn’t be too shocking. He appeared in the first game as the very first secret character in fighting game history. Since then, he’s been a regular throughout the franchise.

Reptile was one of the survivors of the previous Mortal Kombat game, not really seen since getting beat up by Kurtis Stryker. Reptile’s inclusion into the game was hinted in the pages of Mortal Kombat X #3, where the comic showed that he’s now in the thrall of Kotal Kahn, the new ruler of Outworld. It’s Reptile’s way to be nothing more than a follower, having served Shao Kahn, Shinnok, and Nitara over the many games, so this makes sense. In the series’ original timeline, Reptile's body was used as a host to resurrect the big villain Onaga. We’ll see if history will repeat itself or if Reptile will be able to escape his fate this time around.

Mortal Kombat X will be arriving on April 14.
