SBIFF - Attenborough Award Honoring the Cousteau Family

The famed Cousteau family — Jean-Michel, son of ocean pioneer Jacques Cousteau, along with his daughter Celine and son Fabien, received a warm welcome last night as they were honored at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival with The Attenborough Award for Excellence in Nature Filmmaking. The evening began with the World Premiere screening of Jean-Michel Cousteau’s Secret Ocean 3D, followed by an enlightening and poignant conversation, moderated by Tim Matheson. "We are linked in complex ways to the sea and our actions towards it will determine our future. What we do makes a difference and we can no longer ignore the effects of our behavior. We have the opportunity to do what needs to be done. If we protect the ocean, we protect ourselves," said Jean Michel. At the end of the tribute, the award was presented by Mimi deGruy whose late husband Mike deGruy founded this program as well as the Real Nature Film Sidebar and Field Trip to the Movies. It was a fitting testament to

his legacy.
