Astro Boy Will Become a Live-Action Film

The beloved Astro Boy franchise is hitting the big screens in live-action fashion very soon!

Australia’s Animal Logic Entertainment will partner with Japan’s Tezuka Productions to produce a live-action version of the Astro Boy adventures. Zareh Nalbandian from Animal Logic Entertainment will produce with Jason Lust acting as executive producer. Mike Callaghan and Reuben Liber from Ranger 7 Films will also serve as executive producers.

Astro Boy is one of those beloved manga characters that is widely recognized around the world. You don't need to know anything about manga or the world of comics to know about Astro Boy. The little robot boy has been around since the 1950s in Japan, created by Osamu Tezuka for newspaper strips and comics. Those stories were later adapted into several anime series in the 70s and 80s. Although Astro Boy recently got a Hollywood animated film back in 2009 by Imagi Animation, it's never too soon to see Astro Boy fighting evildoers.

“We’ve seen him as a manga, an anime, and an animated movie, but we’ve never seen him as a live action movie or him as a superhero. We actually see him in the same league as an Iron Man. We want to make it aspirational but not soft," said Nalbandian.
