First 6 Pics of Poltergeist Remake, Trailer Imminent

Check out the first 6 pictures from Poltergeist, as well as our first look at tomorrow's trailer for the ghostly 1980s reboot.

For the last week, there has been so much obsessing on Ghostbusters reboots and Indiana Jones recasting—including on our own pleas to protect Dr. Jones—that people are missing the ghosts for the TV static! Yep, there is another 1980s property being dusted off, refurbished, and set to be released into theaters under the guise of “reboot.” Enter the Poltergeist remake.

These images, which were made available via USA Today, are just the tip of the iceberg in 20th Century Fox’s building hype machine for Poltergeist, which is set to debut a new trailer tomorrow. And producer Sam Raimi (The Evil Dead, Spider-Man) and director Gil Kenan know they have their work cut out for them.

“Whenever someone approaches material that’s so beloved, there’s a reflexive reaction to be worried,” Kenan said in USA Today. “It’s a responsibility we take very seriously; we’re working to make a Poltergeist film that lives up to the original’s legacy.”

Kenan certainly appears to on the right track with his undeniably impressive cast that includes Sam Rockwell (Moon, Snow Angels), Rosemarie DeWitt (Rachel Getting Married, Mad Men), Jared Harris (Mad Men), Saxon Sharbino, Jane Adams, and Kennedi Clements as Madison (Carol Anne for the iPad generation).

Admittedly, the prospect of the ghosts being able to make use of social media is an amusing twist on the Steven Spielberg and Tobe Hooper 1982 classic. Raimi spoke on exactly that.

Says Raimi, “The original film commented on how we’ve let television get out of control, babysitting our kids. It’s only gotten worse with the handheld portable devices. Screens are everywhere.”

Expect the trailer tomorrow, which will only be the first rattle of the haunting to come when Poltergeist hits theaters in 3D on July 24, 2015.
