Agents of SHIELD adds The Sopranos' Drea de Matteo

Drea de Matteo is going to play a villain on Marvel's Agents of SHIELD season 2.

Former Sopranos star Drea de Matteo is coming to Marvel's Agents of SHIELD season two as "a Gifted woman with a grudge to bear against S.H.I.E.L.D. who joins forces with Skye’s father, Cal." The character in question is Karla Faye Gideon, a character who appeared in a handful of Daredevil stories in 2005, although this sounds like a rather different approach.

“We’re thrilled to have Drea join us as yet another great villain to challenge our cast,” said Executive Producer and Marvel’s Head of Marvel Television, Jeph Loeb in a statement. “We relished the opportunity to work with her in such a menacing role.”

While there's virtually no chance that Agents of SHIELD and Daredevil are going to have any kind of traditional "crossover" episode, I've found myself wondering what kind of presence SHIELD will have in the Netflix corner of the Marvel Universe. It's probably nothing, though, considering the departure from the comics that this sounds like.

No word yet on which episode she'll turn up in, but Agents of SHIELD season 2 returns on March 3rd.
