The Assassin's Creed Movie Arrives in 2016

Hate it or love it, there's an Assassin's Creed movie on the way, and it's now confirmed for a 2016 release.

It looks like that Assassin's Creed movie is definitely moving forward, as it prepares for a 2016 release.

Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot confirmed today that the film is in production. The film will arrive on Dec. 21, 2016.

"We have the pleasure to announce today that the green light has been given by New Regency, and the production has already started," Guillemot said. "This is a very important milestone for the project and for our team on Assassin’s Creed."

Justin Kurzel (The Turning) is set to direct, and it has long been rumored that Michael Fassbender (you know him, right?) is attached to star in the film. Whether he's starring as the series' first protagonist, Altair, or later incarnations of the main character, such as Ezio from Assassin's Creed II, remains unclear. Rumor has it that the film is actually going to take place during the Spanish Inquisition, which would make it the first time the franchise has visited the era. It would also confirm that the film won't directly adapt any of the games. That's probably for the best.

Although the idea of watching an Assassin's Creed movie bores me to death, I have to say that Fassbender might be the saving grace of this film. The guy can play anything, especially when it comes to a member of a secret society of anything who must eliminate enemy targets. He's the next James Bond.

More details on the film as we learn them!
