Marion Cotillard Joins Assassin's Creed Movie

Marion Cotillard will star alongside Michael Fassbender in the upcoming Assassin's Creed movie!

Now that the Assassin's Creed film has been officially confirmed for December 2016, news is moving faster than ever on the film, which is set to go into production this fall. Deadline now reports that Marion Cotillard (Inception, The Dark Knight Rises) will star in the film alongside Michael Fassbender.

Justin Kurzel (The Turning) is set to direct, and Ubisoft and New Regency will produce the film. This casting is also telling of the actors and Kurzel having a positive collaborative experience since Kurzel also directed both Fassbender and Cotillard in this year's forthcoming Macbeth film. For the record, that Bard adaptation is also set in medieval Europe, so take from that what you will about an Assassin's Creed setting.

Not much else is known about the film at this point, especially not whom Cotillard is playing in the film. The Assassin's Creed video game series has featured several female Assassins throughout its run as well as love interests, but whether Cotillard's character fits in either of these categories is yet to be revealed.

I personally hope she plays a villain in time, sort of like the character she played in Inception, which wasn't actually about time at all, but you get the picture. Having Cotillard as a villain in both past and present would definitely be a perfect use of her talents.
