Watch the Trailer for Guillermo del Toro’s Crimson Peak Now

Watch the first teaser trailer for Guillermo del Toro's new gothic horror Crimson Peak, starring Tom Hiddleston and Jessica Chastain.

When watching the first trailer for Crimson Peak, you are taken back to the gothic world of dark houses built upon dark land, and constructed for dark deeds. Except as this is a Guillermo del Toro movie, so you can be sure the controversial deeds will be luridly bright. Obviously, we cannot wait.

As one of our must see horror movies of 2015, Crimson Peak offers the prospect of a genre master attempting to summon some of the decadent dread of a bygone era. With a premise that could be pulling just as much from the writings of either Brontë sister as it could be from pulp magazines, Crimson Peak stands poised to be Guillermo del Toro’s ode to the gothic literature that birthed modern horror.

In other words, expect something hopefully as foreboding as Dragonwyck (1946) as it is Devil’s Backbone. But with that proudly and early placed “R-rating,” rest assured that del Toro is bringing a modern sensibility to what increasingly looks like a Victorian fever dream made reality.

Set in the rural English county of Cumbria, Crimson Peak follows a young British novelist named Edith Cushing (Mia Wasikowska) who has come to live with her enigmatic new husband Sir Thomas Sharpe (Tom Hiddleston) in his crumbling estate. There she will discover Sir Thomas’ macabre past, his mysterious sister Lady Lucille (Jessica Chastain), and with any luck, the stuff of eternal nightmares.

Crimson Peak opens on October 16, 2015, which perhaps coincidentally is the 168th anniversary of Jane Eyre’s publication.
