Masters of the Universe Movie News: First Image, More Details...

Check out the first official image from the new He-Man and the Masters of the Universe movie. More news on the way...

There's been one of those exceedingly rare updates about Sony's Masters of the Universe movie. Once again, it comes from DeVon Franklin, the SVP of production for Columbia, who has pretty much been our only source of updates on this project for a bit. What is it? It's an official looking title card for the Masters of the Universe movie!

Check it out:

No word on who might direct Masters of the Universe so maybe that's the news coming later this week. Jon M. Chu was once set for the chair, but departed for another toy-centric project, Jem and the Holograms. It's possible that Jeff Wadlow, the director of Kick-Ass 2 and an upcoming X-Force movie for 20th Century Fox, and who wrote the screenplay, could end up directing. There's also been some chatter about Mike Cahill (I Origins) for the job.

We've known for some time that Mr. Wadlow's screenplay for the new Masters of the Universe movie is complete, since DeVon Franklin tweeted out an image of the title page back on January 1st.

As ridiculous as this might sound, I hope that the new Masters of the Universe movie takes a somewhat serious approach to the source material. Justin Marks' now discarded Grayskull: The Masters of the Universe script was a fairly logical reimagining of the He-Man mythology, and done properly, with the right amount of world-building, the realm of Eternia could do well as a franchise. They just have to get around some of those names...
