The Wolverine 3 set to shoot next year

Director James Mangold confirms that production won't begin on Hugh Jackman's next Wolverine movie until 2016.

Just a quick update on the next The Wolverine movie, that Hugh Jackman is already signed up to make. James Mangold, who directed the last solo Wolverine effort, is back for this one, and we've already heard an assortment of rumors about the film. The big one is that Patrick Stewart is potentially going to guest star, with Wolverine and X-Men's Professor X teaming up for the film. That's unconfirmed at this stage, however.

What is confirmed though is that the new movie won't start shooting now until 2016. David James Kelly is penning the screenplay for the new film, and with a release date of March 2017 long since inked in, the movie is third in the queue of upcoming X-Men projects (behind Deadpool and X-Men: Apocalypse).

It's James Mangold who's confirmed that the shoot now won't begin until "early next year." Speculation suggests that Jackman will be appearing in X-Men: Apocalypse, and we wonder if the later start for The Wolverine 3 is in part designed to accommodate that.

More on the film as we hear it.
