First Images of James McAvoy as Victor Frankenstein

Check out the first image of James McAvoy as Victor Frankenstein alongside his trusty assistant, Daniel Radcliffe's Igor.

It’s been a long time coming, but it appears that we’re finally about to see James McAvoy and Daniel Radcliffe bring new life to the Frankenstein legend. Thus 20th Century Fox has released the first official image of McAvoy as Victor Frankenstein, as well as more of Radcliffe and his impressive sideburns. In the below images (via Empire), things look positively electrifying with a production design that admittedly appears to be somewhat inspired by Kenneth Branagh’s Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein. Hopefully, it won’t be taking too much else from that production…

In Victor Frankenstein, filmmakers attempt to find a new angle on the Modern Prometheus, exhuming the 1818 Mary Shelley novel (as well as its many adaptations to find a hunchback assistant) with the aim to tell the story from Igor’s perspective. Granted, I am still perplexed how Igor—a character created by Universal Pictures in Son of Frankenstein (1939)—is appearing in this Fox film, but here we are. In it, Igor (Radcliffe) will strike a redemptive friendship with the young medical student named Victor (McAvoy) just as Victor begins tinkering with the secrets of life and death. Jessica Brown Findlay, Andrew Scott, and Mark Gatiss also star. The movie is directed by Paul McGuigan and is written by Max Landis.

Victor Frankenstein lights up movie theaters on October 2, 2015.
