World War Z 2 confirmed for summer 2017

Brad Pitt will star once again in the new World War Z film, that's now confirmed for June 2017.

Given the swathe of negative press it had earned in the build-up to its release, World War Z actually turned out to be quite a decent film. Granted, it didn't have the most notable resemblance to Max Brooks' book, on which it was based. Yet the Brad Pitt-headlined feature overcame having its back third restructured late in the day, and went on to gross $540 million at the box office in 2013.

It was revealed pretty soon after the movie's release that plans were afoot for a sequel, with Brad Pitt set to reprise his role as Gerry Lane. Director Marc Forster isn't returning, instead being replaced by Juan Antonio Bayona (The Impossible).

And we now learn that World War Z 2 has been confirmed for release on June 9th 2017. At the moment, that's the same date that Fox has earmarked for Fantastic Four 2. We wait and see if either of those budge.

Steven Knight (Locke) is penning the screenplay for World War Z 2, and more on the film as we hear it.
