Terminator Genisys is "third" Terminator film, says James Cameron

In a new promo clip, director James Cameron lends his support to Terminator Genisys, and says he regards the sequel as "the third film"...

There's not long to go now until Terminator Genisys appears in cinemas - the first film in the franchise since McG's Terminator Salvation was released to tepid reviews back in 2009.

In the run up to the release, writer-director James Cameron has come out to help support the franchise he first started way back in 1984.

Stating in a new featurette (which you can find below) that Genisys has "reinvigorated" the franchise, Cameron goes on to add that he even thinks of it as "the third film" in the series - thus giving short shrift, it seems, to not only Salvation, but Jonathan Mostow's 2003 sequel, Terminator 3: Rise Of The Machines.

Nevertheless, it's encouraging to see Cameron, who knows a fair thing about the universe he's created, being so positive about Alan Taylor's forthcoming sequel. Will Genisys be the "renaissance" the Terminator franchise deserves? We certainly hope so.

Terminator Genisys is out in UK cinemas on the 2nd July. Until then, here's that new featurette.
