Christopher Nolan Reveals Trailer for New Documentary Short

Christopher Nolan will be debuting his next film in August: a documentary short about the Quay twins. Here's the trailer...

Update: The great thing about his next feature being a documentary short is that Christopher Nolan can have a trailer out in amazingly quick fashion. Indeed, Nolan's Syncopy and Zeitgeist Films have revealed that his film "Quay" will be part of a catalogue of short films to watch, which will be primarily comprised of the Quay Twins' own animated creations, including "In Absentia," "The Comb," and "Street of Crocodiles." To be screened under "The Quay Brothers in 35mm," you can watch the trailer for all of the above right here.

Original story (7/27/2015): Christopher Nolan is one of the few directors who walks the precarious line between art and commerce, creativity and mass appeal. Such creative triangulation is fascinating to look at unto itself, yet increasingly there has been speculation about if Nolan would take a step away from blockbuster cinema, where five of his last six films have resided to stunning effect in The Dark Knight Trilogy, Inception, and Interstellar (or: the adventure movie that ended with a lesson in theoretical fifth dimensional thinking). Eventually, when a filmmaker is imagining scientifically authentic black holes, he has to inevitably go smaller next, right?

Well how about a short documentary next?

Indeed, it was announced Monday via Tribeca Film that Christopher Nolan has already shot his next project, a documentary entitled “Quay.” Centered on the real-life Stephen and Timothy Quay, Nolan’s “Quay” will be a 35mm short (because: of course) that details their careers in stop-motion animation, including on shorts such as “In Absentia.” While the Quays’ work in stop-motion animation is not as popular as Nolan’s filmography, we imagine that this will soon change when “Quay” premieres at New York’s Film Forum on Aug. 19 where the filmmaker will be on hand for a Q&A.
