Watch the New Trailer for Horror Comedy The Final Girls

The staples of the slasher genre are sent up again in the horror comedy The Final Girls. Here's a new trailer...

Horror comedies aren't easy to get right, but when they're on target, the results can be spectacular. To cite two fairly recent examples off the top of our heads, see the ferociously entertaining Tucker And Dale Vs Evil and The Cabin In The Woods.

The Final Girls is another meta comedy that sends up the staples of the slasher genre. In it, Taissa Farmiga (American Horror Story) plays Max, the daughter of a late actress who, in her '80s heyday, was a scream queen in the fictional horror franchise Camp Bloodbath. In a plot twist seemingly borrowed from Last Action Hero, Max and her friends are magically ported into the realm of that movie series. It looks like entertaining stuff, and while we've seen deconstructions of the slasher genre before, its nods to the likes of Friday The 13th and Halloween look genuinely affectionate.

The Final Girls, directed by Todd Strauss-Schulson and also starring Nina Dobrev (The Vampire Diaries) and Malin Akerman (Watchmen), hits theaters on October 9.
