Enchanted 2 Moves Forward as Disenchanted

Disney moves forward on Enchanted 2 with a new official title: Disenchanted. Some thing might not be ending happily ever after...

Long before Frozen, families and nostalgic Millennials had Enchanted, the sweet hybrid of live-action romantic comedies and hearts-on-their-sleeves Disney animated musicals. In fact, the opening and closing of Enchanted might mark the final traditionally drawn, two-dimensional animation in a Disney theatrical release. And it also marked the beginning of Amy Adams’ movie stardom as the Disney Princess Giselle.

In the subsequent eight years, there has always been plenty of chatter about an Enchanted 2, a prospect that star Amy Adams has been open to in the past, but there has rarely been any concrete movement until now.

Collider is reporting Tuesday that Disney has renewed interest in an Enchanted sequel to the point where it now has an official name: Disenchanted.

While at the moment only the title is confirmed, Disney still has in place director Anne Fletcher (The Proposal) to takeover filmmaking duties on the potential follow-up. And it certainly would be in line with all the recent live-action remakes Disney has been producing. Indeed, unlike other live-action Disney potential franchises of the last decade, including The Lone Ranger, John Carter, and Tron: Legacy, Enchanted was an unqualified success. On a budget of $85 million, Enchanted earned over $340 million worldwide, as well as three Oscar nominations for Best Original Song from composer Alan Menken and lyricist Stephen Schwartz.

But simply going off just the title, Disenchanted suggests that not all love stories will end happily ever after. None of the cast is currently confirmed to confirm, but we suspect Amy Adams is a definite for the sequel to happen. Yet, perhaps we might not be seeing Patrick Dempsey as her prince charming?
