Matthew Vaughn to Direct Thriller I Am Pilgrim

X-Men and Kingsman director Matthew Vaughn takes a break from comics with I Am Pilgrim.

Following back to back successes with the comics-based X-Men: First Class and Kingsman: The Secret Service, director Matthew Vaughn has signed up to direct I Am Pilgrim, based on the best-selling novel by Terry Hayes. Vaughn is also a producer on the film, which is being distributed through MGM, while Hayes (who has scripted or co-written films like The Road Warrior and Dead Calm) will adapt the novel himself for the screen.

Published in 2013, I Am Pilgrim tells the story of a former U.S. intelligence agent, who is now retired and officially doesn’t exist, who is called back to consult on the investigation of a murder – in which the killer apparently read a book on forensics that the agent wrote. The trail leads the protagonist on an international manhunt and uncovers a plot that could threaten the existence of the United States itself.

Production is scheduled to begin sometime in 2016, presumably after Vaughn films the sequel to Kingsman, which he is currently writing. There’s no word yet on casting or a release date, but those will likely fall into place next year as well.
