There is more than just one wintry-bound Western coming out on Christmas. Indeed, while fans are right to be jazzed about Quentin Tarantino’s full embrace of the genre that’s also coming in 70mm, fellow visionary director Alejandro G. Iñárritu is helming another project of clearly demented ambition and jaw-dropping style. Don’t take my word for it; just watch the new teaser for Leonardo DiCaprio in The Revenant.
Fresh off his Oscar wins for Best Director and Best Picture for Birdman, Alejandro G. Iñárritu teams with Leonardo DiCaprio to recount the legend of Hugh Glass, a 19thcentury fur trapper in the Northwestern corridor of the mysterious American West. When Glass is mauled by a bear and left to die in the woods by his companions, who rob his grisly body, he survives his injuries against all odds, just so he can have his vengeance. And soon, he is coming for the “friends” that left him out in the woods, including Tom Hardy, Will Poulter, and Domhnall Gleeson. They’re going to wish they finished what the bear started, but we won’t.
The Revenant will have a limited release on Christmas Day, and will be in theaters everywhere on Jan. 8, 2016.
