Spectre: Final James Bond Trailer Debuts

Daniel Craig and Christoph Waltz square off in final trailer before Nov. 6 premiere

Say what you will about evil worldwide criminal organization Spectre, their branding is dope. The cool-looking squid logo can only be the result of a forward-thinking millennial in the PR department. Oh, the rest of the trailer (see below) for the movie Spectre is pretty cool too.

There is certainly a lot to process from just over a minute of footage. One is that Christoph Waltz is great. We know he has two Oscars in his trophy case but that doesn't necessary equate to good Bond villain. That Caesar-esque haircut, staid line delivery and plainly evil black shirt are all good signs though.

We don't get the geographical variety we're used to seeing in a Bond movie trailer. Just London, some snow-capped mountains and whatever anonymous desert enclave Spectre likes to hang out in. James is almost Buster Keaton'ed at the latter. Season 6 of Archer had more interesting settings.

But again: this is only a minute-ish long trailer. That's a pretty bold choice as a Bond movie can undoubtedly fill about a 35 minute trailer with highlights. What's stranger is this new concept of a "final" trailer. So this is it? Really, this is all we're going to see until November 6? In the modern era where media moves so quickly, shouldn't they debut a final trailer like 20 minutes before a film premieres? That's the only way I would ever remember a release date - if trailers came out like iCal reminders.

Everything from Spectre's ad campaign is suggesting an apocalyptic struggle between James and his most powerful, influential antagonists yet. That feeling of the most "ultimage struggle yet" has been curbed a bit by Daniel Craig announces he's in for at least one more Bond movie after Spectre. But honestly, that's a struggle that all movie franchises face today. Everything has to be the biggest most consequential movie ever in the series...and also set up sequels nicely. You know what was the last movie to do an excellent job with this? Skyfall. Bring on the Spectre octopus symbol thingy!.
